Wedges : Wedges in a jaw crusher are used to control the product size and adjust the discharge opening. They are inserted between the toggle plate and the main frame to make it easier to adjust the closed-side setting.
The movement of rocks down the crusher chamber's wedges (jaw angles) progressively reduces the size of particles through compression. The smaller particles then pass through the crusher in a continuous stream. Some jaw crusher designs also use wedges to keep the jaw plates in place.
A wedge is a triangular-shaped simple machine that changes the direction of force. It can spread or split objects by converting a downward force into a horizontal one. For example, the wedge-shaped head of an ax splits wood by applying downward force that spreads sideways, forcing the wood apart.
